Peptide Vial Expired? How to Tell If It's Still Usable

Lyophilised peptides last for years; reconstituted ones for weeks. Here is how to tell whether the vial in front of you is still good.

Lyophilised vials

The white/off-white cake should look dry, uniform and intact. Acceptable:

Slight cracking or settling
A pale ivory shade rather than pure white

Discard if:

The cake is wet or partially melted
Visible discolouration (yellow/brown)
Powder is sticking to the rubber stopper

Reconstituted vials

The solution should be water-clear. Discard if:

Cloudy or particulate
Yellowed
Off smell
Past 28 days since reconstitution

Manufacturer expiry

Printed on the vial. Most lyophilised peptides have a 24-month shelf life when frozen.

Is a slightly cracked cake still good?

Yes — vacuum-dried peptide commonly cracks during shipping. Potency is unaffected.

Can I use just past expiry?

Frozen lyophilised peptide often remains potent 3–6 months past the printed date, but this is at your own risk.
